About the Book:

Sometimes it's hard to be a mother
Kate Madison lost her husband in tragic circumstances at a young age. Her two loves are her vintage fashion business and her four children. Although, currently, her twenty-something children seem to be causing her anxiety and heartache.

Daughter Izzie is a making her name as a top lawyer when she falls in love with bad boy Zach. Kate's son Justin and his partner, Richard are considering surrogacy as a way to have a family. Justin's twin sister, Julie, has met a man who Kate feels is too good to be true . . . Youngest son, William, is dating a woman old enough to be his mother.

Between Kate's New York business and the demands of family, Kate's not had time to think of herself. When she allows herself to fall in love again, she wonders if, maybe, this could be her time. If only it were that easy . . .

Book Review:

Against all odds is the story of Kate, a widow and her family who are residing in New York. Kate having lost her husband during early years of the marriage and being a single mom to four kids knows well that life can take a different turn just when you expect it to be perfect, thus she wants nothing but the best to happen to all her children.

Kate has two daughters and two sons, her eldest daughter Isabelle or Izzy as she is addressed throughout the book is a attorney, Izzy is head strong and a dedicated person who falls for Zach, her client a rich spoilt brat and a occasional drug addict who has been cut out from his family’s trust fund. When Kate finds out Izzy and Zach are planning on getting married, she is upset as she clearly sees that Izzy is throwing away her life for the person she believes would be responsible after they get married and she could definitely turn him into a person that her mother sees for her.

Kate’s second daughter falls head over heels for a Peter, a corporate executive who is handsome and rich but is a goody two shoes kind of a person. Kate as every mother would has her own suspicions about Peter, that she hopes are not true and wishes her daughter to lead a good life with the man she is in love with. Justin Kate’s son and Julie’s twin has been living a happy life with his partner Richard for some years now and now they both have opted for surrogacy and are awaiting a kid, Kate is worried about Justin as she thinks he and Richard aren’t ready to afford a child both emotionally and financially. Kate’s youngest son Willie is much of what we call a Casanova and lives a completely different life all together and Kate’s mother Louise is my most favorite person in this book, because she doesn’t let age decide what she can do and is constantly travelling, visiting different countries and experiencing different cultures.

There is a major turn of events that Kate was always worried about and what happen when her kids have to face situations she was knew were coming. This book is about how people have to face the odds and end up with what is good for you. Kate realizes that no matter what her kids have to face the situations that are meant to be into and she cannot save them and they would only learn from their mistakes to get to what is best for them.

Danielle Steel never disappoints to leave the reader’s in awe and weaves the stories which involve real life situations and social issues in such a beautiful way that one gets heavily involved into the life of the characters of the book.

Soon the battle for survival is personal. Lain and Steven join a group of rebel fighters to take on IFEN. But does she love or mistrust Steven? And are the rebel group as bad as IFEN? A twisting, intelligent, enthralling adventure about a future world that might just be on our own horizon.

Book Review :

This book is the second book in the “Mindwalker” Series by A J Steiger, but can be read as a standalone novel as well.

The book starts with Lain Fisher, who is a young Mindwalker
waking up in hospital bed in IFEN, without remembering any events of the past few months. Lain is confused and suspicious of her surrounding finding herself in the IFEN center with no answers from Dr. Swan, her mentor who also happens to be her Guardian.
When all of a sudden she is kidnapped from IFEN by Steven and other Blackcoats who terrorize the IFEN building. With no memories of the past few months she is unable to understand the situations around her and when she Finds Ian, her best friend she is relieved and is notified that this is in fact her rescue mission. When she lands in Canada and tries to regain her memories, she discovers her true identity and thus begins the actual journey of freedom and her mission to help make the United Republic of America an equal country for all individuals with no type.

Loved the concept and the take on Type system of differentiating people from one another.  The book is based in a very developed technological era and the concepts of mind walking and memory erasing are mind-blowing.

The advance technology described in the book had me hooked and Ian and Lain’s friendship and dedication to change the world facing all odds is like a ray of hope when someday in the real world someone like Lain would demolish the discrimination of caste and class and type.

But going to the authorities means revealing her identity, admitting her guilt and, worst of all, losing her son.

Book Review:

Seems like I am reading all the heart-wrenching books this summer. This book is the journey of Susanna Miller and her son Tyler. The book begins with Susanna Miller losing custody of eleven month old Tyler to her ex-husband Jim and his wife Peggy. Instead of handing over Tyler to Jim & Peggy, she runs away from Boulder as the thought of not being around Tyler every day scares her and she cannot go through the pain of losing her only family, her child Tyler. Thus starts the journey of a mother who wants nothing but to be with her son all her life.

Susanna has everything planned; she leaves behind her old life and starts her new life in a completely new city and as a completely different. While in Boulder everyone is in shock with Susanna’s move and her friends are initially disappointed as she leaves without informing anyone, but on the other hand support her decision. Peggy and Jim are determined to get Tyler back and leave no stone unturned to find Susanna; they register with the Missing Children Association and declare a cash reward for the person who would get them to Susanna. On the other side Susanna start’s her new life, making some new friends, and working and makes sure that she is around Tyler all the time. When she purchases a new computer for herself, she finds some files that the owner might have forgotten to delete; initialing ignoring the connection of the information has with her surroundings. But once she cracks the information down, she knows she has to come out of her secondary identity in order to save many lives around her. She is in dilemma, whether to save the lives of the innocent people or save herself and stay with Tyler her whole life.

The writing is terrific and the plot becomes more and more intense with every page turned. Up until the last page the author is able to hold the suspense of what comes next. Definitely one of my best reads of 2017.

ISBN-13: 978-1786070944
Release date: 4 May 2017.

About the Book:

Willow has staged runaways ever since she was a little girl. She has everything a young person should want: a rich daddy, clothes, money, a pony and a place at a prestigious boarding school. In reality, she has everything except the thing she really wants: a father who cares enough to find her.

Aged sixteen, on the eve of her father’s wedding, she ruins the bride’s dress and escapes through a window, determined never to return. Her missing mother was a circus performer, and Willow wants to follow in her footsteps. But the performers she meets don’t want her. When her last bit of money is stolen by Suze, another runaway girl she thought she could trust, Willow becomes really homeless. Then Suze comes tumbling back into her life and a desperate Willow has to decide whether to trust her all over again . . .

So begins their frightening, exhilarating odyssey though hunger, performance, desperation and dreams. Will they both survive and will Willow make it to the circus of her imagining?

Book Review:

Circus is about a teenage runaway named Willow. Apparently Willow has been running away ever since she was a little, she has everything a teenager can ask for a rich dad, a pony and she lives a prestigious boarding school. All she wants is a father who cares enough to come and find her.

Willow has planned everything this time and she runs away on her father’s wedding day. She hitchhikes rides to reach Hastings; she has a year’s savings and her Kit of Happiness with her. Willow wants to become a circus performer just like her mother. Once in Hastings she discovers that the pier got burnt down few years ago, but seems like there are circus auditions in the Art Café in Hastings.

Willow participates in the auditions but fails to qualify. Disappointed while roaming around the street she meets Suze, a street artist who performs tricks with fire. Willow is determined to learn those tricks and asks Suze to teach her thus starts her journey to become a successful circus performer. Suze agrees and they go to celebrate their new beginning to a restaurant, where Suze steals all of the money that was left with Willow. Willow now distressed and without a roof to sleep with no money is homeless and has to sleep on the streets of Hastings. After two days Suze returns just in time to save Willow from the drunkards who are trying to molest her. There and then Willow has to decide if she can trust Suze once again or can choose her own path. Their journey to make Willow a successful circus performer begins, Suze teaches willow the tricks that she knows and as Willow becomes better with every passing day. The journey of their survival and the determination to achieve the sole goal to make Willow a star is heartwarming and the relationship the girls share is commendable.

The Circus where Willow performs is my absolutely favorite part and the writing is brilliant and I felt like I was actually watching Willow right in front of my eyes. Her costumes designed by Suze have apparently become my favorite. I couldn’t keep the book down once I started it and throughout the book I was concerned for Willow when she was in trouble and was happy for her when she got into the circus. It was like I was living my life with Willow and Suze. The circus is a very much different read than the usual YA books and thus stands out.

Note: Thanks to the Publisher for sending me an ARC of the Book.

Book Review

From the moment I started reading this book, I was sure that I would be cherishing this book for a life time.  This book holds a really special place in my heart, the characters, the story; everything about this book is so much more than just a piece of fiction.

The book begins with Marcia delving in grief of losing her only son Ryan, Marcia is a strong and brave woman who wants justice for her dead son, who is killed by Tyson Manley. Her Courage to punish the murderer of her son leads her into attending the trial of Tyson Manley. Though she seeks support in her sister and police officer Nipa, as the trial proceeds she knows that it’s way more difficult to go through this than she had initially thought. With every page turned I was hooked to the story more than the previous page. The writing is brilliant, loved the unfolding of events and the different angles in which the same incident is provided by the witness of the murder. The motive of murder and the motive of the murderer for doing so and being in jail is itself a “Collateral Damage” as stated by the convicts mother.

The story is so much more than a mere trial of a juvenile boy and the unfolding of all the events in between the on-going trial are so written that I couldn’t keep the book down. This novel is written brilliantly and the story itself is devastating and heartwarming at the same time.

After reading this novel I thanked my parents for the way I am raised and that too in such a safe environment, this actually made me Google some similar cases in which the novel is based and the results are heart breaking.

P.S:  This novel made me realize that I love reading courtroom dramas more than anything.

Thanks a lot to the publisher for providing me with the review copy.

Book Review:
My very first Danielle Steel book and I must say that it had me hooked after I crossed some 50 odd pages. The book is very slow at first, after some 50-60 odd pages the story takes a strong grip and gets one hooked.

The story is about Alix Philips, who is a top class reporter and my boy! What a fearless character Alix is. She’s a women of steel, always ready to take challenges and fight for what’s right, even when it means that she can lose her life in the process. Alix is a single mother to a 19 year old daughter Faye, who is studying in Duke University.  The main plot is about exposing the Vice President of USA, Tony Clark for his deeds and risking the nation for his own good. In the course of doing so Alix forms a close bond with Olympia Foster, who is the widow of one of USA’s senator Bill Foster, who also happens to be Tony Clark’s best friend. Olympia and Alix are poles apart from each other, but still strike a bond and there kick starts a mission to save the nation and every discovery of the progress is shocking and a an eye-opening truth of how the world has certainly changed from the times when friendship and relationships were a truly important part of one’s life and now everybody wants their own good. Tony Clark’s character is a shade of smartness combined with wickedness, he believes that if you have to achieve something you don’t have to wait for it to happen but rather mend your ways with everything it takes to achieve that one thing.

Every Assignment of Alix is written with utmost perfection that one can actually be there walking with Alix covering the story. The incidents and hot news that she covers are so much similar to what’s happening in real world. The book actually doesn’t seem like a work of fiction but rather seems like a true story.

Except for a few pages at start and some incidents in between the book is absolutely fantastic read and a wonderful contemporary fiction.

Thanks a lot to the publisher for sending me this amazing book and the views expressed above are my own and may differ from others.

Book Review: Selfienomics: A Seriously Funny Guide To Living The Good Life by Revant

Book Name : Selfienomics: A Seriously Funny Guide to Living the Good Life

No of. Pages: 196
Publisher: Bloomsbury India
ISBN-13:978-9386141675
ISBN-10:9386141671

About the Book:

"Original version of a #selfie: Taking a photo of yourself rather than having someone else take it for you. You try out various filters and select the one that makes you look your best. #Selfienomics version of a #selfie: reflecting on different aspects of your life and taking the initiative to improve so that you can be the best version of yourself."

And so begins Selfienomics, the first Indian self-help book written for young people by a young entrepreneur who speaks their language. Offering workable, practical advise on how to manage finances, start a business, complete creative projects and how to be a better citizen, Selfienomics is so funny, upbeat and entertaining, it's not just a must-read but also a mast-read.

Review:

This book is my first attempt at reading non-fiction and I am not at all disappointed with it. Before reading the book I thought non-fiction was so not my genre to read, things have definitely taken a U –turn after finishing ‘Selfienomics’. The book is a complete package of humour, life lessons and small aspects in life that we unknowingly ignore.
This book is for everyone and anyone who reads and that’s the best part about ‘Selfienomics’. It’s not for a specific target audience; it has something for everyone out there. The lessons that I learned from this book are definitely worth sharing. The author at one point says if something is too big, it loses its importance. This is so true, everyone has experienced at some point in their life that the one thing that was too big for them was not important the moment it became yours. There was a point in my life when money was my top priority now that has been permanently replaced by happiness. Money definitely holds some place, but more than a anything I prefer happiness and now I tend to do the things that keep me happy. Earlier when I started working my whole routine was work-sleep-eat-sleep-work, now I tend to spend time reading books in between the breaks in office and when I travel I read on my phone. When back from office I play with my dog, and then Sleep! (I like sleeping OK! :D)
This book has helped me in so many ways and I know it would help you as well, it’s worth a try isn’t it?
Read this when you are down or confused or in any mood and you won’t be disappointed as it would in some way present you the answers that you are looking for.
